Fashion For Home - Featured Online Shop

This week, I'd like to share an online shop that I think is not only a really great resource for furniture and home accessories, but that also provides a nice platform for designers and future clients. Plus, they're based in Berlin ... and you all know how much I love Berlin ;)

So without further ado, I present to you:

When I found the Fashion For Home website, a few clicks were enough to let me know that this shopping site was bookmark worthy. First, from a style perspective, I was attracted to a lot of their furniture. Modern, fresh, contemporary. Then, the prices kind of surprised me, much lower than I would have guessed. Of course, I was curious about that so I started looking through their profile and discovered many things that scored a lot of brownie points in my books. And that's why their link has been sitting in my "to be blogged about" folder for a while now.

Fashion For Home is about delivering designer quality products at an affordable price and their range is available in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and in the United States. Click on the country for the appropriate website. The reason they can offer such great prices on their products is because of their manufacture-to-order business model. That means that production only begins when a purchase is made, eliminating a lot of storage and middlemen costs. Another benefit of made-to-order items is that they get more attention in the quality control phase than mass produced stuff. So even though you may have to wait a little bit longer for your item, you can feel reassured that you are getting the best price and good quality.

I also learned that Fashion For Home is a member of the Sustainable Furnishings Council, so they do their best to make environmentally and socially responsible choices when it comes to their products and their company.

And finally, besides valuing design, quality and the environment, Fashion For Home cares very much about their clients, potential clients and their designers. Designers, whether renowned or just starting out, are invited to send in their designs. If approved, designs go up in the voting section of the website, where site users can vote for their favorite projects and leave feedback and comments. If a project gets voted in, it will appear in the shop and becomes available to a worldwide market. Fashion For Home promises designers good commission, retained rights to their designs and flexible payment options.

There's a sense of community at Fashion For Home (even despite their widespread presence) and I really like that - designers get feedback and exposure, potential clients affect the collections and the shop offers a very attentive customer service (including a live chat!).

Overall, I feel like Fashion For Home is a unique and valuable resource for anyone who is looking to buy furniture and accessories for their interior spaces.

I leave you with my favourite product that is still in the voting section:

It's the Max & Moritz Coffee Table Set by Peter Ulbrich and Oliver Zaiser from Design Friends studio. Versatile, beautiful and somewhat cute!  I'm going to vote for it now ...

Hope you enjoyed this week's featured online shop!
Xx. Holly.

side note - do you know about the Max & Moritz children's story? Sehr interessant! Although I'm not sure how appropriate it actually is for children...ha! Anyhow, it is a German classic and I love the illustrations :)

  6. Ha. Max und Moritz Geschichten. But of course.
I like when here and there you drop in a German Wort:)

Great write up on this online shop. I think Made.com were the first with this business model but FFH take it a step further with the sustainability factor.

It's a great concept. Democratic, affordable and interactive. Rather genius, no???

  7. Thanks for your comments friends :)

Made.com is pretty cool and I think they're on top of sustainability and social responsibility too : http://www.made.com/quality-and-environment

Also, TheCreator.me is pretty great and fits this category. I wrote about them a while back: http://www.hvhinteriors.com/2012/03/care-support-promote-and-thats-what-its.html

    Online shopping is fun!
