Price / Sheetz Residence - Inspiring Spaces

This is the Price / Sheetz residence, designed by a+i Architecture, and located in NYC (Tribeca). It's true, it's not completely my style, but I still find it an inspiring space. There's a lot of stuff I like about it - such as the loft layout, exposed brick walls with archways, glorious wood floor, Beat pendants, the wooden kitchen with marble countertops, a massive sliding door ...

Overall, this loft has a raw/industrial/modern vibe going on, which makes for a really great contemporary space. But it's a little too dark and too rough for me. I really dislike the dining seating solution.  And the kitchen is way overstimulating for my taste.

What's your opinion?

Xx. Holly.

  1. Hi

I really like this, we live in a converted watermill so not your traditional domestic dwelling so it's nice to see similar industrial spaces to get ideas from - i'm already mentally replacing our staircase after seeing this.

    Thanks

  2. Hi,

It is dark for my taste. The furniture gives a bit of contrast,I like it. What I appreciate the most is that there is a lots of outside light comming in the kitchen and down the staircase. Overall well designed.

  3. I actually like exactly the same elements of this as you. That sliding door is my dream, if I ever had this sort of space. I really LOVE and industrial look.

Lovely floor and some great wood. The whole as a space doesn't work for me and I'm trying to think why. Maybe it just doesn't gel as one space. It's too confused and there are too many mixed styles. Also the furnishings are rather insipid.

The space itself though is enviable.

Still fascinated by that incredible sliding door ..... x

  4. Holly, thank you so much for providing the name and link to those pendants. I have been in love with those lights for a while, but couldn't track down their maker.
As you pointed out, there are a few quirky things going on. For example, the kitchen cabinets should have been a painted wood or different color to help contrast better against the brick. Right now, it's matching too closely. I do love all the exposed brick and open floor plan.

  6. Hi Holly. I really like it dark & rough ;-) Loving the industrial look and feel of this loft space. Those stairs are fantastic and I adore Tom Dixon's Beat Lights.

That said, I would throw out every single piece of furniture and start again on that front.

    Thanks u for sharing xx

  8. Thanks so much for your comments!

@Debra - glad to serve up some staircase inspiration!

@ Maria - there does seem to be lots of light around the staircase. I wish there were more pictures of the upstairs.

@Tina - I agree, the space itself is the best part about it. That door, I know!!

@Theresa - Glad to offer the source of those pendant lights :) I know what you mean about the kitchen. But I so love the wood that I thought maybe the brick needed to be painted ... but that might be weird. It's sure though that something would need to change - maybe wood was not the best choice for the kitchen ... hmmm.

@Gerard - I know, the furniture is really underwhelming. Aha! A style vs taste comparison in practice ... I think I am starting to understand what you mean ;)
