Touring a Sweet Shop in Berlin (pt.2/2)

Hi again! As promised yesterday, here is the second shop I would like to share a little tour of. This shop is special to me because it belongs to one of my dear friends in Berlin. It's a very cute children's shop in the Kreuzberg district - and I'm not just saying that because my friend owns it ;).

It's called Malinka and specializes mainly in children's clothing, but there are some toys and furniture too. The special thing about Malinka is that you can buy new, used and handmade articles all in one place. The handmade items are often times made by the owner herself, sometimes even her mom or other people in the neighbourhood. There's a real community feel about that, don't you think? So let's begin the tour, shall we?

I find this shop so sweet. You really get the feeling that the owner puts a lot of care and thought into what she chooses to sell. Actually, I can say I know this to be certain! I think that's why the interior of this shop feels so comfortable and welcoming ... because it's honest and my friend takes pride in what she makes and sells. You can feel that when you are there. It's not just a random, thoughtless collection of stuff - there's feeling and intention. The last picture shows her desk and sewing machine, where she makes things (or rather sews things) for her shop, right in the shop. My favourite things she makes are those red felt mittens and the sweet little pouches right beside them in the second to last picture. The pouches are filled with dried, but very fragrant, lavender bulbs. Apparently, the scent of lavender is known to induce calmness, which I believe may be quite desirable for parents with babies and young children.

Visit the Malinka webpage for contact info and location. Otherwise, I hope you enjoyed this little shop tour.

tschüßi from Berlin,
Xx. Holly.

ps. We are finally driving back home tomorrow, P and Jack and I. So next time I see you here, I will be writing from Frankfurt

  2. As promised, you delivered.

What a charming and quirky little shop. Anyone who paints their outside in bright red is a friend of mine!

You can tell a lot of love and attention to detail has gone into this venture.I like that it has community spirit where you can come, have tea? and shop for a little something... new or second-hand!

The working corner is my favourite with the sheep rug thrown over the chair. It looks cosy, comfortable and a place I would like to hang out in.

    Nice tour Mrs Holly:) xx

  3. really enjoy coming across such projects where lots of love, care and only but the best of intentions are put together and find shelter under a roof!

Thank's for sharing your friend's lovely place and have a safe trip back! Looking forward to long, long talks over coffee, freshly baked cookies and probably walks by the woods & lakes.

    Take care,
    Iro, xoxo

    1. Thanks for stopping by here Igor, glad you like the shop! It is quite an inspiring little place. As I said to Tina above, my inner child is completely entertained when I'm there :)

My friends seem to all be getting pregnant these days! I need lots of inspiration too. Do you know about http://www.room-to-bloom.com/? Good source of inspiration for children's stuff there ;)

  5. Ahh, I love your shop tours, Holly! This little shop is so sweet for tiny ones. It's hard to make shops like these look cohesive, and I think the owner did a great job of bringing all the products together and artfully displaying everything. I'd have a ball in here! For some reason, I'm obsessed with teeny tiny clothes and shoes, and my husband just thinks I'm a little bit psycho. We're not even thinking about kids yet...but when we do, guess I'll just turn into Mrs. Crazy Lady when it comes to shops like this.

    1. Thanks for your comment Danie! I'm really drawn to little ity-bity clothes and shoes too lately ... I guess turning 30 has something to do with it. Kids are not a plan for the near future either, but my husband keep joking that I have baby fever, lol. I think he maybe a bit right ;) But ssshhh... don't tell ;)

Glad you liked the shop. You are right that a store of this category is hard to keep united from a style perspective ... she does do a pretty good job of that :)

      Xx. Holly.

    1. I agree! Baby furniture should be made of non toxic materials, something parents maybe forget to pay attention to when buying toys and clothes and furniture. Good reminder :)

  10. Hi Janie! Glad that you've been. The store belongs to a dear friend of mine, so yes, I always buy something when I visit :) I love her collection of postcards, I once bought a red watering can, a Schwarzer Peter card game, two fabric pouches she made herself, one filled with lavender and the other with cherry pits that can be warmed up to sooth baby belly aches :) Her shop is perfect for gifts for all my friends with children, but just as equally satisfying for my inner child, lol!

    Xx.
