Ross Residence - inspiring spaces

I stumbled upon the Ross Residence today and thought you might like to have a look inside.

Designed by California based Hulburd Design, this contemporary home has a lot of interior design ingredients I like; wood, concrete, glass, light, white, stainless steel, mosaic tiles in the bathroom, designer seating, sleek lines, streamlined kitchen. Of course, there's always something we can find to tweak and adjust when considering such spaces for our own tastes. There are a few things that I would change, but the most important one would have to be a different shade of wood for the interior panelling - something a little less red and saturated. Then again, maybe it's just the image. The rest is just superficial stuff.

Do you like this home? Favourite parts? Things you would change?

Xx. Holly.

  1. Well then again if the wood for the interior panelling had few other shades it would be try to match the decoration. There is so much light comming in that house, that it will give the interior its shade. Neat !!!!!

  2. Right, what I crave now is being transported to a house like that for much needed rest and recuperation? Is that possible in the services you offer or are you just visually tempting us????

In all seriousness, a little too contemporary for me. I've noticed that contemporary houses all look the same to me. It is difficult to create warmth and texture in a place like that because they are usually full of white, stainless steel, wood and concrete. (That's the point, right)

I need colour, texture, warmth, playing with scale, a little vintage, some rough luxe and lots of signs of life, like books and personal belongings found in car boot sales.
I think we'll get the Missoni family to kit it out..

Oh, Mr & Mrs Grey have just had a heart attack:)

Apart from that the size of this house is wonderful.

Thank you for showing me some calm and serene setting. I really needed this today in my chaos.
    Love Tina xx

  3. Hi Holly dear,

the place is wonderfully designed and the location is super, too.
I'd go with the same changes concerning wood color as you ;)
I do like a lot of the architectural parts, however I rather dislike the dining furniture and the art there. In general the elements of the house seem unappealing to me, leading to it not managing to win me despite its undoubtedly good features.

But this is just me. It 's lovely that you shared it here and you asked for opinions.

Hope you are well. Has my sms reply reached you yesterday?

Warm hugs + enjoy a wonderful day,
    Iro ,xx

P.S: thank you for your super, super adorable comment in my latest post. All the loveliness you see is a reflection of you! xo

  4. Love this modern house and the wood warms up all the sleekness. You're right, the wood is a tad too red. Didn't notice it until you pointed that out. Hoping it's the pictures.
I also just popped over to Hulburd Design's site and got a little lost in their beautiful portfolio. Seems they do a lot of work north of me in San Francisco (my old hometown).

  7. What a beautiful space. The contrast between the warm natural wood and the painted bricks is magical, and the detailing and proportions are perfect.
Love that front elevation, thanks for sharing.
