Moodboard Mondays - an office space

Happy beginning of the week and the real beginning of the HvH Interiors blog.

I've decided to start the week with moodboards.  So every monday, you can expect a post that has something ... anything to do with moodboards.

I'm sure some of you are wondering what exactly a moodboard is.  In the case of interior design, it is a valuable visual tool that helps with the initial creative process of designing a space. It is basically a collection of images, samples or anything visual that you put together which you feel represent the space in some shape or form - like a collage.  The idea is that the final product is supposed to give you a clear direction or a feeling or 'mood' for the space in question.  Once the mood is set, the planning can begin.  This is probably one of the most exciting parts of a project.  I love making moodboards, as I'm sure you will soon learn ;)

Today, I would like to share a board I made during my studies.  It is of an office or work space. It's simple, but one of my favourites to date.

This work space was inspired totally by my favourite Jackson Pollock painting - White Light. The colour scheme was derived from the colours on the canvas. Because this is a busy painting, I thought the room needed to be calm in contrast. Dominated by browns, beiges, greys and a significant amount of white, the room maintains a lightness and calmness but has a cozy feel to it. With that, a comfortable office is beginning to form, but something is missing. Enter fiery orange! To be used as an accent colour on decor items and accessories, it ensures that the room is not boring. The surrounding colours in the scheme benefit from this orange and come alive via simultaneous contrast. This orange colour is a good choice for a work space because orange is known to encourage activity, sociability and creativity; the perfect combination for a productive day.

What do you think?

'till next time,
